Biedermeier Walnut Chest of Drawers, c. 1815

This authentic Biedermeier chest of drawers was crafted in Hesse around 1815 and serves as an outstanding example of the clean, elegant design language characteristic of the early Biedermeier period. The three-drawer case is veneered in select walnut, showcasing the lively grain typical of the era, which lends the piece its distinctive character.

Defining features include the ebonized half-columns—complete with gilded bases and capitals—that articulate the sides of the case and create a stylish contrast to the warm hue of the walnut. The finely ebonized edges of the top surface accentuate the balanced design and add a touch of refined elegance.

The surface has been traditionally hand-polished with shellac, beautifully highlighting the wood’s natural depth and silky luster. With its well-balanced proportions, the chest serves equally well as a striking standalone piece in a living area or as a stylish addition to both classic and modern interiors.
