Pair of Art Déco armchairs

“A wonderful pair of original and carefully restored French Art Deco armchairs that are delicate but surprisingly comfortable. They are upholstered with a typical Art Deco fabric in a gold-brown spiral design.

Jules Leleu (1883-1961) was a French interior designer and furniture designer known for his elegant and timeless designs. He was born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, and began his career in the early 1920s as a furniture restorer before focusing on his own designs.

Leleu founded his own design studio in Paris in 1928 and quickly became known for his exquisite craftsmanship and his ability to combine traditional and modern design elements. He designed furniture, carpets, curtains, and wallpapers that were appreciated by prominent figures such as Queen Elizabeth of Belgium and the Maharaja of Indore.

During World War II, Leleu worked for the French Resistance movement and helped to hide endangered individuals. After the war, he was commissioned by the French government to design the public spaces of the Palais de l’Elysée, the official residence of the French President.

Leleu died in Paris in 1961 at the age of 78, but his influence on French design and furniture making is still felt today. His designs are still appreciated and collected by leading furniture stores and collectors around the world.”

This pair of Art Deco armchairs combine beautifully with this round tables.
