Hans Kögl

Kögl often drew on natural forms such as wheat sheaves, Florentine flowers and wisteria to design sculptural lighting fixtures, tables and various decorative objects. His best-known works were made in Germany and Italy in the 1970s and 1980s, although some pieces date back to the 1950s.

Kögl’s vintage gold-plated metal lamps and sophisticated table frames capture nature in a way that goes beyond simple lifelike imitation – the handcrafted works, with their copper and gold-plated leaves and other plants, free and elegant, demand a second look for the profound love to appreciate the designer’s attention to detail.

Playful and eye-catching, some of Kögl’s 1970s textured palm floor lamps stand over a meter tall. Combined with the unique coffee tables, which also lean heavily on organic shapes with their decorative bases of gilded leaves, the lights can help bring the outdoors into a living room in a way that is both luxurious and provocative.
