Signed peacock vase

The Etling vase with peacock motif is a beautiful example of Art Deco art. It was designed and manufactured by the French glass company Etling and is decorated with an elaborate pattern of peacocks and leaves.

In symbolism, peacocks often represent pride, beauty, and dignity. The peacock motif on the Etling vase can thus be interpreted as an embodiment of these qualities. The beauty of the peacock design combined with the clear form and sophisticated design of the Etling vase make it a sought-after collector’s item for art lovers and collectors of Art Deco objects.

The use of animal motifs and nature motifs was very popular in the Art Deco movement. These designs were intended to bring modern life into harmony with nature and convey a sense of harmony and balance. The Etling vase with peacock motif is a perfect example of this quest for a harmonious connection between humans and nature that often found expression in the Art Deco style.

The Etling manufacture was a French art glass company that was active in the 1920s and 1930s and specialized in the production of Art Deco objects. The company was founded by the German immigrant Edmond Laurent Etling, who came to France in 1909 and initially worked as an antique dealer.

In 1919, Etling founded the company “La Compagnie des Arts Français,” which specialized in the production of art objects made of glass, ceramics, and metal. The company quickly became known for its innovative and elegant Art Deco designs and attracted a wealthy and art-loving clientele.

Etling worked closely with leading designers such as the renowned French sculptor and designer Chiparus to produce a wide range of Art Deco objects, including lamps, vases, sculptures, and other decorative items. Etling also employed a number of talented glass artists who mastered complex techniques such as etching, engraving, and grinding glass to realize its unique designs.

In the 1920s, Etling Studios had branches in Paris, London, and New York and exported its products around the world. The company worked closely with leading retailers such as Cartier and Tiffany and participated in important art and design exhibitions such as the 1925 Paris World’s Fair.

The Etling company remained in operation until the outbreak of World War II, but production was not resumed after the war. Today, Etling objects are highly sought after by collectors and can be sold for high prices at auctions.
