Biedermeier Cherrywood Secretary 1825

Nr. 2600 | 6.800,-- Euro

Biedermeier Secretary

A secretary from Thuringia, dated around 1825, is a truly impressive piece of furniture made of cherry wood. Birch grain and mahogany, resting on a softwood body. The curved top of the secretary has a secret drawer, below which is a full-length head drawer. Behind the writing surface, grained in burl birch, lies a lovingly designed interior. Consisting of a full-length drawer inlaid with swans in mahogany.

To the left and right of this there are four smaller drawers, also inlaid. In the middle of the secretary there is a compartment, flanked by half-columns in cherry wood. A parquet floor and mirror glass on the sides. Behind this glass there is a colored row of book spines, painted with great care. The entire box of the secretary can be removed to reveal three small softwood drawers in the back wall – the secret drawers.

There is also another secret drawer located in the middle under the cabinet, which can be removed by pushing and pulling from the side. The continuous veneer pattern of the secretary gives it a harmonious look, which is further enhanced by the shellac hand polish. This piece of furniture is not only a functional work piece, but also a work of art that enriches any room with elegance and sophistication.
