Pair of striding panthers

 An Art Deco masterpiece

The Art Deco artistic movement, which reached its peak in the 1920s, is home to numerous impressive works that express elegance, modernity and style. Among these pieces, the “Pair of striding panthers” stands out, a remarkable bronze sculpture.

The work was created in France around 1925 and is a striking example of the typical characteristics of Art Deco, embodying a synthesis of geometric shapes and floral motifs. This artist, whose name is often associated with such works, wanted to capture the dynamism and power of the animals with this sculpture. The two panthers, acting with their heads erect and their paws raised, exude an aggressive grace and majestic presence.

The use of bronze as a material is not a coincidence. Bronze not only allows for excellent detail, but also gives the sculpture a timeless quality and durability. In combination with the multi-colored marble base on which the panther sculpture is mounted, a fascinating contrast is created between the shine of the bronze and the natural texture of the marble. This base further highlights the sculpture and serves as a perfect frame for the dynamic image of the lions.

The pair of striding panthers is not only an example of the artist’s technical mastery, but also a reflection of the social trends of the 1920s. The Art Deco movement represented the desire for a new sense of style and a spirit of innovation in a time of change. This sculpture is therefore not only a work of art, but also a fascinating testimony to the cultural developments that shaped the era.

You can make a real statement with these panthers, as well as with this newspaper stand by Jacques Adnet.
