Clear pressed glass with partially frosted and satin-finished surfaces. The vase is decorated with a continuous figural relief depicting bacchantes.

Standing on an octagonal base.

Signed “Verlys” underneath the base.

Verlys Vase with Bacchantes

This Art Deco vase by the French glassmaker Verlys combines figural relief with carefully varied glass surfaces. Its slightly flared rim rises above a procession of female figures set among vine leaves and grapes. The figures emerge from the frosted background, giving the decoration a sculptural quality.

The contrast between clear and satin-finished glass changes the appearance of the relief as light falls across the vase. Below the flowing decoration, the faceted base provides a firm geometric finish. The result brings together natural motifs, sculptural modelling and the clear structure associated with French Art Deco glass.
