Art Deco Table Lamp
This exceptional Art Deco table lamp combines the elegant design language of the 1920s and 1930s with the contemporary fascination for Egyptian-inspired motifs. Two stylised kneeling dancers support a large, textured glass globe with their raised arms. Their hairstyles, jewellery and costumes incorporate decorative elements of the Egyptian Revival, which had a major influence on European Art Deco following the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922.
The symmetrical composition, the metallic sheen of the figures and the contrasting marble base give the lamp a sculptural and luxurious presence. It is a characteristic example of the way in which Art Deco united lighting, sculpture and exotic ornamentation to create a decorative work of art.
