This spectacular Art Deco table combines the elegance of 1930s French luxury furniture with an impressively generous scale. A table of this type can also be used as a conference or writing table. Additionally, the wide, rectangular top is veneered in exquisite rosewood and finished with a high-gloss lacquer. The surface reflects the room like a mirror, giving the piece an almost floating lightness. Maison Dominique – André Domin & Marcel Genevrière

Founded: 1922 in Paris by André Domin (1883–1962) and Marcel Genevrière (1885–1967).

Address/Showroom: 104, Faubourg Saint-Honoré, one of the most prestigious boulevards in Paris.

Background of the founders:

Domin was self-taught without formal academic training.

Genevrière originally worked as a journalist for various Parisian newspapers (including Paris Magazine, L’Intransigeant, Gil Blas, and Comoedia).

Style & Significance:

Maison Dominique is among the most important creators of French Art Deco furniture.

Typical features include clean, cubist lines, precious woods (rosewood, Macassar, thuja burl, etc.), and understated, dignified elegance. It also includes very high-quality lacquering—often with a recessed frame and a sophisticated, asymmetrical construction.

Important Exhibitions & Commissions:

Participation in the Salon d’Automne from 1922 onward.

Strong presence at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris, the famous World’s Fair that gave its name to Art Deco.

Participation in the Exposition Coloniale 1931 in Paris.

Collaboration with important contemporaries such as Jean Puiforcat, Pierre Legrain, Pierre Chareau, and Raymond Templier in the artists’ group “Groupe des Cinq” (Group of Five) from 1926 onward.

Significant prestigious commissions, including the furnishing of apartments on the ocean liner SS Normandie. Later, it involved furniture designs for the Élysée Palace after the Second World War.
