Art Deco Bar Cabinet

Original Art Deco Cocktail Cabinet with Railing, circa 1925

An elegant cocktail cabinet from the early Art Deco period. It features a high-gloss black finish and a continuous, solid chrome-plated railing. The clean, blocky front is visually softened by the gently rounded right side and the horizontal metal bar. This is a typical detail of the sophisticated bar furniture of the 1920s. Behind the doors is a mirrored interior with shelves for glasses and bottles. When opened, it creates the impression of a small home bar, like those found in the Parisian and Berlin salons of the time.

The cocktail cabinet offers ample storage space. Thanks to its compact proportions, it integrates perfectly into living and dining rooms. It is equally at home in a home office or a stylish home bar. A distinctive collector’s item for lovers of authentic Art Deco. It is functional as a bar and simultaneously a striking, sculptural piece of furniture.

The Path to the Home Bar

The most primitive beginning was a bottle of cognac hidden behind books. Then it became a small stash of liqueurs and cigars in a bookcase compartment. After that, the real development of the liqueur and cigar cabinet began. It took on a life of its own, assuming various forms with luxurious interiors. Glass, metal, and synthetic materials with gleaming, clean surfaces ensure an appealing presentation and optimal storage for the cabinet’s delicious contents.

It not only became independent but also mobile. On wheels—as a liqueur cart—or on metal runners—as a bar cart that glides silently across the carpet—the small home bar has already made its appearance in our homes.

In Italy, a small home bar in the form of a sideboard is fashionable. It is electrically operated, with a built-in mini ice cream maker for chilling bottles, fruit, and making ice cream. It also features a lemon and orange juicer, ice crusher, and shaker for flips. Cocktails, punch, whipped cream, and a moka pot are also included. In America, the latest trend is the ‘portable mini bar’ in an airplane suitcase. It is perfect for taking along on car or plane picnics.
