Single armchair

Armchairs in the Biedermeier style were very popular between 1815 and 1848. They were an important piece of furniture in the living room and were often used as part of a seating arrangement with other chairs and sofas.

This single armchair is from Southern Germany and dates back to around 1820. It is made of solid walnut wood with a comfortable seat and a padded backrest. It stands on four slightly flared legs with curved armrests and a slightly curved back panel.

Armchairs in the Biedermeier style were characterized by simple, elegant lines and minimal decoration. They were often made of high-quality woods such as cherry, mahogany, or walnut and had padded seats and backrests for added comfort.

The armrests were usually slightly curved outward, and the legs were straight or slightly curved. Many chairs also had decorative details such as carvings or inlays.

Today, armchairs in the Biedermeier style are highly sought after and often command high prices in the art market. However, they are also available from furniture manufacturers and retailers who offer modern interpretations of the Biedermeier style.
