The Portaluhr Charles X is an antique table clock from France, manufactured during the reign of King Charles X (1824-1830). It is known for its magnificent decoration and classic design, typical of French art from the early 19th century.
The clock is made of a rectangular brass casing with a gilt surface and is often decorated with elaborate bronze and marble ornaments. The clock face is usually made of white porcelain or enamel and features Roman numerals to display the time.
A Portaluhr Charles X typically has a variety of functions, including a stopwatch, a moon phase display, and a date display. The clockwork is powered by a pendulum, which allows for precise timekeeping.
In the past, the Portaluhr Charles X was a symbol of luxury and wealth and was often displayed in the living rooms of wealthy aristocrats and members of the royal court. Today, it is a sought-after collector’s item and is often featured in museums and art exhibitions.
