Art Déco Panther
During the Art Deco era, particularly in the 1920s and 1930s, numerous sculptures, including panther sculptures, were crafted from various materials, notably bronze. The Art Deco style was characterized by its clean lines, geometric shapes, and often luxurious materials like our two Panthers in two-tone marble. Here is some information on the bronze production of Art Deco panther sculptures in France:
Design and Modeling: Artists and sculptors conceptualized Art Deco-style panther sculptures with flowing lines and stylized forms. The models were often created in clay, wax, or another malleable material.
Molding: Negative molds of the panther were made from these models, typically using materials such as silicone or plaster, allowing for an accurate reproduction of the original model.
Lost-Wax Casting (Cire Perdue): This traditional method is employed in crafting bronze sculptures. The wax model is embedded in a mold, and the mold is heated to melt the wax, leaving an empty space. Molten bronze is then poured into the void, taking the shape of the original wax model.
Bronze Casting: The molten bronze is poured into the empty mold, where it cools and solidifies. This process produces a bronze sculpture with the intricate details of the original wax model.
René Rochard (1906-1954) was a French sculptor known for his work during the Art Deco period. He specialized in creating animal sculptures, particularly big cats like panthers, as well as other wildlife.
