Exceptional Art Deco Chest of Drawers – De Coene Circle, Belgium circa 1940
Elegant and extraordinary Art Deco chest of drawers from Belgium, created in the vicinity of the renowned workshops De Coene Frères, Kortrijk, around 1940.
The chest of drawers impresses with its clear architectural design and luxurious finish. The deep black high-gloss lacquer gives the furniture an impressive presence. Moreover, it underlines the elegant austerity of the Belgian Art Deco of the late 1930s and early 1940s.
The front is divided by three generous, continuous drawers , which are equipped with finely crafted nickel-plated ring fittings . The design is complemented by nickel-plated metal applications on the upper corner sections. Furthermore, the tapered legs with original metal sabots enhance the overall look.
The combination of monumentality and elegance is particularly appealing: the powerful silhouette is visually loosened up by the slim, slightly flared legs. As a result, the furniture has a remarkable lightness despite its presence.
The design language is reminiscent of high-quality Belgian luxury furniture from the De Coene environment. Their designs were characterised by excellent workmanship, architectural clarity and a modern interpretation of Art Deco.
An exceptional collector’s item of Belgian Art Deco art – representative, rare and highly decorative.
