Small Empire wall Mirror
An Empire wall mirror is a mirror designed in the Empire style, small enough to be mounted on a wall. The Empire style was popular in Europe and North America in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and was inspired by the ancient world. Empire wall mirrors were often part of a larger ensemble of furniture and decorations, all designed in the Empire style.
A wall mirror can be rectangular or oval and is typically surrounded by a frame made of noble woods such as mahogany or walnut. The frame can be decorated with elaborate carvings or inlays that depict classical motifs such as columns, capitals, or friezes. Some frames are also embellished with gold or silver leaf. The mirror itself is often of high quality and equipped with clear glass.
This kind of Empire mirror we are selling, is from Germany and dates back to around 1810. It is made of mahogany with ebonized flat pilasters, gilt capitals and bases, and black lot paintings in the pediment field.
This Empire wall mirror can be used in many different rooms to create an elegant and refined atmosphere. It can be used in the entryway as a place to check one’s appearance before leaving the house, or in the bedroom as part of a dressing table.
