The Belgian Jean Poulain was born in 1884 in the Belgian Congo (today Dominican Republic Congo). 

In 1920, he discovered art and painting for himself.

From 1912 he traveled through different countries of Africa.

After completing his expeditions in 1930, his animal painting began on the basis of his notes, sketches and photographs.

He died in Belgium in 1967.
