Delicate sofa Frankfurt from the Empire period

This delicate Empire sofa was more for representation than for daily seating.

This is the only way to explain the incredibly well-preserved condition – it was upholstered and reupholstered around 30 years ago.

The construction consists of 6 tapered legs with a surrounding frame and side frame – the backrest could be screwed on and removed separately from the back for possible transport.

The lightness of the Empire style is also reflected in the delicate inlay work, which figuratively shows two faces in half profile – turned towards each other – playfully surrounded by flowers and leafy tendrils.

This sofa is in authentic original condition with no additions in patina.

At that time, Frankfurt had two workshops that could be used for this work.

We attribute this table and the other associated furniture to the workshop of Johann Valentin Raab.

Unfortunately, hardly any documents on the master plans of the carpenters’ guild have been preserved in the archives in Frankfurt.

This Empire sofa belongs to a group of Empire chairs and an Empire armchair.
