Paul Collin (1864-1943) was a French painter and illustrator best known for his romantic landscape paintings and illustrations. He was born in Paris and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts, where he was a pupil of Gustave Moreau.
Collin began his career as an illustrator for magazines such as “Le Monde illustré” and “La Vie moderne”. Later he turned to painting and became a member of the Société des Artistes Français. His landscape paintings were inspired by the romantic tradition and often depicted idyllic rural scenes.
Collin was also a successful portrait painter, creating portraits of prominent figures of his time, such as French President Raymond Poincaré.
During World War I, Collin served as an officer in the French army and created numerous paintings and sketches depicting life on the front lines.
Collin was a prolific artist who worked in a variety of media, including oil, watercolor, pastel, and lithography. His works were shown in many important exhibitions, including the Salon des Indépendants, the Salon d’Automne, and the Salon des Tuileries.
Today, Collin’s works can be found in many important collections, including the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
The Normandie was a French ocean liner built in the 1930s. It was the largest ship of its time and was considered a technical marvel. The name “Normandie” comes from the French region of Normandy, known for its historic landmarks and natural beauty.
The ship was operated by the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique and sailed between Le Havre, France and New York City in the United States. It was designed as a luxurious passenger liner and was equipped with elegant cabins, fine dining restaurants, a swimming pool, a cinema, and other amenities.
During World War II, the Normandie was seized by the Allies and converted into a troop transport ship. However, it was heavily damaged by a fire while in port in New York City and was later scrapped.
Today, various objects and artifacts salvaged from the Normandie serve as a reminder of the impressive ship and its history.
